Considering Solar Roofing? Let Roof Technologies.Net Help
One of the reasons we changed our name several years ago to Roof Technologies.Net related to the many technological advancements in the roofing industry. Since then, there have been many further advancements, including true solar roofing as a roof replacement option. If you’re considering solar for your home, you now have two basic options: solar shingles or solar panels. Either way, Roof Technologies.Net and our affiliation with Natural Frequency can assist you with your Solar needs.
Types of Solar Roofing
The term “solar roofing” can mean different things to different companies. For example, CertainTeed offers a photovoltaic solar roofing product for roof replacement that integrates seamlessly with their shingles. It costs more to install CertainTeed Apollo® Solar Roofing than traditional shingles, but the installation may pay for itself if your roof gets enough sun.
Dow offers a solar shingle that integrates with any shingle. Unlike panel-style solar roofing, these look like shingles. They snap together to fit your roof’s dimensions and are installed the same way as traditional asphalt shingles – with either a hammer and nails or a nail gun.
Other manufacturers have panel products that install over existing shingles; however, if your roof is more than about eight years old, you might want to consider a roof replacement before installing your solar panels. This will save you money in the long run as most solar panels are designed with around a 20-year life expectancy.
The federal tax credit for solar roofing will be gradually going away unless there are changes to the current law. However, some municipalities offer tax credits or other rebates to encourage installation of solar products.
